  3. Reflectors: A Lighting Tutorial
    Duration: 5:26

Description: By Jay P. Morgan. In this Slanted Lens lighting tutorial we take a look at the basics of reflectors and how to use them on location. We shot Liz Hernandez from E-TV on location at the Ultimate Grave Yard and had a great shoot. From this shoot we are going to take a beginning look at reflectors, the different colors and practical application examples on how to use them. As a beginning photographer, using a reflector is an easy way to start to modify light and learn where to place the light source in relationship to your subject. Using reflectors and becoming good at placing them will teach you how to place strobes. Good light placement is the same for both strobes and reflectors but easier to see with a reflector than it is with strobes. The color examples used in this video are all based on Photoflex reflectors which can be seen at Good luck and keep on click'n! Jay P. Morgan http http http

  15. Balancing Strobes with Daylight: A lighting Tutorial
    Duration: 4:52

Description: n this Slanted Lens Lesson we are going to show you how to balance strobes with daylight. When I shoot on location I usually use the ambient light {Sun or Shade) as one of my light sources in the scene and then bring in strobes to make that light more interesting. Using strobes and daylight together is most successful when I control the ambient with the shutter speed and the strobes with the aperture. I use a low ISO and then pick an aperture based on how much I want in focus and how much power I can get from the strobes. If my strobes can give me f8 then I know that I need to adjust my shutter speed up and down to balance the sun light with the strobes at F8. The strobe is constant so the aperture is constant but the sun is changing so my shutter speed will be changing. This is a successful process that allows for the constant changing of the sun. If I want the sun as the rim light then I will lengthen the shutter speed to allow the sun to be one stop brighter than my strobes. With practice this process will make more sense and become very intuitive. This was a great shoot that we did out at Universal Studios Back lot that illustrates this principle.

  16. Creating Falling Snow: A Lighting Tutorial
    Duration: 4:51

Description: By Jay P. Morgan. In this Slanted Lens tutorial we are going to show you how to build a snow falling rig and then how to light falling show. I have seen many snow falling rigs in Hollywood over the years and all of them were made by a special effect house. Its hard to find a set up at Wall Mart that will create a curtain of falling plastic snow 10 feet wide. Consequently I have built many of these over the years and have simplified the process so it can be built in an hour or so and then thrown away when we are done. I use a plastic snow that I get from Studio Specialties here in Los Angeles. This is the web address Shipping is not to expensive because the product is very light. I shoot snow mostly in the summer time when there is not any good snow in the US that is easy to get to. This means shooting snow scenes with talent wearing ski jackets and mittens in Los Angeles heat. During one shoot we did, on the back lot at Warner Brothers, it was 90 degrees and the talent were sweating profusely. It is hard to look cold when large beads of sweat are rolling down your face. It is a fun process. Here is how we build a snow rig and light and shoot falling snow. Good luck and Keep on click'n! Jay P. Morgan http http http ****No assistants were fired during this shoot*******
