The 2011 Mississippi gubernatorial election, occurred on November 8 of that year. Incumbent Governor Haley Barbour was ineligible to run for re-election due to term limits.
The Mississippi Constitution requires the winning candidate to receive a majority (not just a plurality) of votes cast; otherwise, the Mississippi House of Representatives would have selected the winner.
