Boeing 367

Boeing 367 was a model number for aircraft within the Boeing Corporation. It may refer to either:

  • The original model number of the C-97 Stratofreighter, a piston-engined military transport of the 1940s, derived from the B-29 Superfortress. The later civilian Stratocruiser development of this aircraft was the Boeing 377.
  • More usually, Boeing 367-80 or 'Dash 80', the 1950s prototype of Boeing's first jet airliner, the Boeing 707.

The confusion arose from Boeing's deliberate misinformation to hide its development of a new jet airliner by using an old model number.
